Space Needle and Mariner Game

Jonathan and I had a blast together on his "special" day. We went shopping and then headed to Seattle for our 12:15 lunch reservation at the Seattle Space Needle. We had always wanted to eat at the top, but waited for a special day- and Jonathan's 13th Birthday definitely qualified! We ordered some steak special (it was the space needle's b-day so select items were only 19.62- the year of the World's Fair when it was built) and enjoyed the views of Seattle as we spun slowly around. Our salad and clam chowder were delicious... and Jonathan even commented that "my Dr. Pepper tastes even better than usual"! But then our steaks came... they looked weird so our first impression was not great, but then when Jonathan took a bite, he gagged. It was so disgusting! I was really disappointed, but then it just got funny. We laughed about our "mush" for at least an hour. We were full from the bread, mashed potatoes, asparagus, etc., so all was not lost. The waiter came by and asked if Jonathan liked his food (cuz none was gone) and he said "uh- I'm just full"- and then the minute he left we burst out laughing yet again. It is something we'll never forget! The dessert made up for our nasty entree. It was called a "lunar orbiter" - and was vanilla ice cream with some chocolate syrup and strawberries on top. They pour liquid nitrogen around it and it steams, so looks really spectacular. And it helped to get the taste of our "mush" out of our mouths. The day turned out nicer weather wise than forcasted, so it was sunny out- with some clouds which blocked the mountain views at the top, but it was still beautiful.

We then headed to Safeco Field for a 3:40 M's game vs. Tampa Bay. We arrived over an hour early to catch batting practice (and hopefully a ball), but they were just finishing up so J was disappointed. We sat in our bleacher seats and soaked up the sun. The game was dull- as games go, as the only run on either side was a lead off HR by Ichiro. But... we still had fun. We landed in the "party central" section, so all the drunks were pretty entertaining, too. We had such a great day together- and it sure beat Chuck E. Cheese!
